Bay Traded for No-Names

There will never be another Bay Day for the Pirates in the foreseeable future, as the club's backwards management has just traded the face of the franchise these past few years to the Boston Red Sox. This just furthers the opinion of many Pirates fans, that the Pirates have become nothing more than a farm club for big market teams. Lets review the deal. The Red Sox got Bay, the Dogders landed Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox to sure up their line-up, and the Pirates, well they got four players that I have never heard of. I can almost imagine what went down in the Pirate's front office today.

"Hey Neal, the Red Sox are on the phone, they want Jason Bay."

"What?! The, the, the Boston Red Sox want one of our players. Well, god, um, we better give them what they want!"

"But Sir, they're only offering a few players that I've never heard of."

"What? Nonsense, I'm sure they'll be great additions to the team. You just do what the Red Sox say."

I imagine a similar scenario taking place last week, before the Pirates dealt Xavier Nady, a consistent bat, and Demaso Marte, one of the best left-handed relievers in the league, to the New York Yankees. Who did they get? more prospects. They are constantly building for the future, but when you haven't had a winning season for a decade and a half, its a little late for that. Maybe that is the attitude that drove me to become a fanatical White Sox fan five years ago. The home town team sucks. I was just naturally drawn to the White Sox for some reason, even though they weren't that good back then, and look what they are doing now! They aren't out shopping their stars for prospects, they are landing big names like Orlando Cabrera, Carlos Quentin, Nick Swisher, and recently Ken Griffey Jr. All you must do is look at what happens at the trade deadline, and that's the difference between a great team, and a perennial bottom feeder. Another decade of losing seasons for the Pirates, and go Sox!
