The Big 3

Well, it looks like not everyone hates Russia after all. The number of countries that recognize the Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia got a big boost yesterday when Nicaragua joined Venezuela and Russia. I am actually going to put up a poll to see which country you think will be next. But come on, cut me some slack, it has been a slow couple of weeks for foreign affairs. If I was in the habit of writing about national topics, I'd have four articles a day. That is not the case however, so I am stuck writing about Central American countries who hate the U.S. and want to get on Russia's good side by defying the West and being rebels. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but.... never mind. I think we should take a closer look at what is really behind the conflict, and who is really in the right.
In my opinion, basically no one is in the right. The Georgians have obvious prejudices against the Ossetians, as such prejudices are prevalent in that region. The Russians, under Putin, are just beyond description in their methods, greed, and complete lack of desire to become a positive contributor to world harmony. The international community is wrong too. It's all about peace, peace, and more peace, until they have a bone to pick, and then it's "man the artillery". Implementing peace keeping forces only delays a problem that is eventually going to boil over, and if Russia is involved, that more than likely means armed struggle. Both sides are wrong, the U.S. isn't going to do anything meaningful about it, and all the U.N. can say is peace. Let them fight, Russia has already alienated itself, let whoever wins win, and then you have a solution that will last, not a ticking time bomb sitting under the heels of a bunch of peacekeepers. *After further research, it appears that the country of Belarus is also planning to announce their support for South Ossetia soon, bringing the number of countries to 4. Cheers.
