First Night In Gettysburg

Yes, as the title suggests, I am sitting in my hotel room, with my first night in Gettysburg drawing to a close. I am happy to report, as my friend noted to me earlier, that I have accomplished more in 3 hours here than I did during three days in Hershey last week. Its only going to get better tomorrow though, because that is when I'm touring the battlefield. Here is what I did today though. Took about four hours to get here, through varied scenery, and upon arriving in town, we went straight to the visitor's center, where there is a museum and a cyclorama of the battle. For those of you who don't know what a cyclorama is, it is basically a giant cylindrical painting of...something, that makes it seem like you are looking out over, in this case, the battlefield. It was stunning. You go up an escalator onto an elevated platform, and they set the lighting to go along with a narration of the battle. Sound effects were scarilly vivid, and the lighting effects were amazing. It is a shame they do not allow photographs of the cyclorama, but it is quite old, and there is a small replica of it on the lower floor (which is pictured above), so it is understandable. After that, we went down to the museum, and that is where I took the large majority, infact probably all, of the pictures I will be downloading in short time. The museum was excellent, with thousands of artifacts on display, touch-screen maps of the battle that give you information on each company, artillery, etc., and probably about 5 small closed theatres that focused on different topics regarding the battle. I also checked out the gift shop, and everything, as one would expect, was mammothely overpriced (even more than the Hershey gift shop I might add). I mean, $25 for a blasted paper poster. What gives? Anyway, after the museum, we went back to check in to the hotel. I won't lie, I would have prefered somehting actually in the town of Gettysburg, but I can make due. The Hotel is about two miles out.
Thats about it for now. I would like to note that this post is probably riddled with mistakes, and it is by no means my best effort at writing, but the television is distracting me, and I'm tired, so I apologize for that. Until tomorrow, cheers.
