I'm gonna make this post quick, because there is really not a lot to say. On July 20th, 1969, NASA landed a man on the moon. On October 9th, 2009, NASA crashed a rocket into the moon at a cost of 79 million dollars. What is wrong with this picture? The answer: a lot. The mission was supposed to find out if there is a significant amount of ice buried beneath the lunar surface, which, if found, will make future lunar colonization more feasible. This being said, NASA reps and scientists have been quoted as saying that current evidence suggests that the amount of ice on the moon is negligible. So why in the hell did NASA, with its highly publicized shrinking budget, just crash 79 million tax-payer dollars into the freaking moon? And on that note, why are we even thinking about lunar colonization at this point to begin with? Look at all the progress that has been made: the shuttle program has been scrapped, the International Space Station, is, if I may be pardoned, a joke, and our deadline to return to the moon seems to be pushed back exponentially with every new year. I think that many would agree that we have more important things to worry about here on terra firma.
