The Travel Channel (A.K.A. Food Network)

I don't watch a large amount of television. The majority of the time, I simply have the news on mute as I'm doing my homework, because it makes me feel good for some reason. But when I do sit down and watch TV, I like to watch things I enjoy. I enjoy HGTV, I enjoy TCM, I enjoy PBS. I used to enjoy the Travel Channel, but in the past two years this admiration has turned to severe distaste. And do you know why? Its because the only shows that are on the Travel Channel nowadays are stupid shows about food! I am sick of it. I used to watch shows on the Travel Channel like Globe Trekker, and Passport to Europe. Now, do you know what their staple shows are? Man vs. Food, Bizarre Foods, Food Wars, American Eats, Chowdown Countdown, and the only on that I can actually tolerate, No Reservations. These shows are supplemented by a daytime line-up of shows like Pizza Paradise, Sandwich Paradise, Hotdog Paradise and Extreme Barhopping. And when they run out of food shows to fill their schedule, you will either get to see A) an entire day devoted to crap about either Las Vegas or Hawaii, B) an entire day devoted to stupid shows about ghosts, or C) a show entitled "Extreme (insert pretty much anything here. Hotels, bathrooms, hospitals, etc)". So, to sum things up, most of the shows currently on the Travel Channel have almost nothing to do with travel. I don't even bother to look at the schedule anymore, because it will almost certainly be some useless show that I couldn't care less about. This is a shame, but if the top brass at the Travel Channel want to shoot themselves in the foot and lose viewers, let them.

You are absolutely right. I would like for them to buy the right for "The Amazing Race", which is infinitely more interesting than most of their shows, while displaying more from other cultures than their exotic foods.

Very true. If they actually cared about providing quality travel programming this is what they would do, but apparently they don't. I would much rather watch one re-run of the amazing race than ten new episodes of Man vs. Food.
