I originally heard this story a couple of days ago on WPXI Channel 11 news. In Plum Borough, drivers called 911 after seeing a naked man strolling on the Pennsylvania Turn Pike. This stretch of the pike just happened to be less than 100 yards away from Regency Park Elementary School.
“We went into immediate lockdown,” said Dawn Check of the Plum School District.
OH NO! There's a naked man walking down the street! That's it, LOCKDOWN! Because you just never know when the guy is gonna pull a firearm out of his ass! Channel 11 interviewed a teacher, who said that they (the teachers and staff) all immediately started ferrying the children to their homes. If the parents weren't there, they brought them back to school to try another child's house. This is ridiculous! Its called close the bllinds, and tell the kids not to look out the window. I mean, the guy was probably only visible for all of about 5 minutes at most. Must not have been there that long, because the police still haven't found him! Let us really look at this situation. What danger could this man have posed to these children? It was very clear that he didn't have any weapons on him. Maybe they were afraid he would walk up to the window and moon them all. This is the kind of stupidity that makes me lose faith in people with authority. Next time I want to get out of class, I think I'll just find some guy and pay him to run by my classroom window nude, then hop in his car and drive away. I'd do it for a couple bucks.

I just found this post searching for the old news story about this event. I actually saw this man, and he wasn't as innocent as you think he may have been. He was totally naked in a strong rain masturbating on the side of the road. He wasn't streaking. He didn't care who saw him and he was intentionally trying to get his jollies by exposing himself while masturbating. He did this in front of possibly hundreds of travelers on the turnpike. He ran in and out of traffic on the turnpike and could have killed someone in an accident. He was never put on the megan's law list because he never "officially touched" anyone. Would you want him standing outside of your building or classroom. This isn't about pulling blinds. This was about protecting children. It was a troubling, troubling thing to see. Maybe it wasn't executed with precision, by having kids be able to leave the building- but at least parents were in the loop that something serious had happened. Hopefully he is still in jail, where he belongs. The last time I heard, he was wearing an orange jumpsuit. Law Enforcement went above and beyond to catch this guy before he went to the next level. Just wanted you to know my perspective.
Hey, thanks, I appreciate your insight. When I authored this post I was going off the information that I had heard on the news, and I never heard anything about it after that. From what I knew, the reaction of the school administration seemed quite ridiculous. From the information that you provide, I would judge their actions to be a good bit more reasonable.
