DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM READING THIS?

Me neither. According to the government, however, it is easier for the aging population of Baby Boomers to read street signs that are printed in capital and lower case letters. That is why, in what can only be described as an attempt to waste absurd amounts of money, the Federal Highway Administration has mandated that all communities must replace their existing street signs with ones that are printed in the aforementioned fashion by 2015. Am I the only one that thinks this is sheer lunacy? Its not as if small communities have surplus budgets with which to pay for these changes; on the contrary, most small towns, and indeed cities, are struggling to meet their bottom lines already without wasting millions on ridiculous street sign replacements. And they will be picking up the entire tab, because the federal government has offered no money to help pay for these changes. There is one consolation, however. The FHA did say that communities could install the new signs as the old ones need replacing. Well thank god for that! Street signs can last decades, why does the government insult public intelligence?

All in all, this federal mandate, as it pertains to the lettering on street signs, is a 100% useless show of government force. I am completely serious when I say that it would take me great effort to think of something more ludicrous.
